About

Stories of people, places, and the moments in between.

Hearth & Lens Magazine is an independent UK-based photography and visual storytelling project created by Ishan Singh.

It began with a simple idea: some of the most meaningful stories are found in the ordinary moments we often pass by.

Through photography, travel, and written stories, Hearth & Lens explores places not simply as destinations, but through the people, details, atmosphere, and experiences that give them character.

The Story Behind the Name

The name Hearth & Lens reflects the two sides of the project.

Hearth represents warmth, people, home, culture, and the sense of belonging we find in different places.

Lens represents observation — slowing down, paying attention, and finding a perspective through which those stories can be preserved and shared.

Together, they represent the kind of storytelling I want Hearth & Lens to be known for: personal, thoughtful, curious, and human.

Behind the Lens

I’m Ishan Singh, the photographer and creator behind Hearth & Lens Magazine.

By day, I work as a Lead Engineer at an IT product company. Photography has never been my full-time profession — it’s something I’ve always enjoyed simply because I love doing it.

Over the years, that has meant taking my camera along when I travel, photographing friends and family, doing the occasional baby shoot simply for the joy of it, or spending far too long editing a photograph because I knew there was something in it worth bringing out.

Photography gives me a reason to notice things.

A quiet street before it becomes busy. Light falling differently across a familiar landscape. The architecture of a place. A fleeting expression. Wildlife behaving in ways you couldn’t have planned for. Weather completely changing the character of a scene.

The small details that might not seem significant at the time, but often become the things we remember most.

Eventually, I realised I wanted those photographs to become something more meaningful than thousands of disconnected images sitting on hard drives, cameras and phones.

My photography isn’t only about creating beautiful images. I’m interested in the experience surrounding the photograph — where it was taken, what made the moment interesting, what the place felt like, and the story that exists beyond the frame.

For a long time, I wanted to create a project where I could bring all of that together.

Hearth & Lens is that project.

A home for the photographs, places, people and stories I collect along the way — and a reason to keep looking for the next one.

More Than a Portfolio

Hearth & Lens is a growing collection of photography, journeys, observations, and visual stories.

Some stories may document a particular place. Others might focus on landscapes, architecture, people, everyday life, or simply a collection of moments connected by a common feeling.

What began as a place to bring my photography together is growing into an independent digital magazine where photography, travel, culture, technology, and storytelling can come together.

This Is Just the Beginning

For now, consider this the beginning.

A collection of places I’ve been, moments I’ve noticed, and stories worth remembering.

Welcome to Hearth & Lens Magazine.
