Hearth & Lens Magazine

I’m Ishan Singh, the photographer and creator behind Hearth & Lens Magazine. By day, I work as a Lead Engineer at an IT product company. Photography has never been my full-time profession — it’s something I’ve always enjoyed simply because I love doing it. Over the years, that has meant taking my camera along when I travel, photographing friends and family, doing the occasional baby shoot simply for the joy of it, or spending far too long editing a photograph because I knew there was something in it worth bringing out. Photography gives me a reason to notice things. A quiet street before it becomes busy. Light falling differently across a familiar landscape. The architecture of a place. A fleeting expression. Wildlife behaving in ways you couldn’t have planned for. Weather completely changing the character of a scene. The small details that might not seem significant at the time, but often become the things we remember most. Eventually, I realised I wanted those photographs to become something more meaningful than thousands of disconnected images sitting on hard drives, cameras and phones. My photography isn’t only about creating beautiful images. I’m interested in the experience surrounding the photograph — where it was taken, what made the moment interesting, what the place felt like, and the story that exists beyond the frame. For a long time, I wanted to create a project where I could bring all of that together. Hearth & Lens is that project. A home for the photographs, places, people and stories I collect along the way — and a reason to keep looking for the next one.
